My wife and I were walking into Wegman’s on Saturday, and we both noticed another Sepang Blue car as we neared the front of the lot. Mrs. Tripper asked if it was the same as mine (it was an S4). I explained that it was not, but it’s an easy miss as all modern Audis look the same. On the way out she says, “Uh there’s some guy taking pictures of your car.” I said “Hah, I bet it’s the owner of that S4 we saw on the way in.” It was, he had parked up next to my car to take some pics. He was a little embarrassed that we caught him, but he introduced him self and was a really cool guy. Turns out he frequents the same cars n coffee as I do, knows the bimmershop where I take the M3, blah, blah, blah...

As we drove away my wife and I commented on how cars are such a “nerdy” hobby. She always sees it that way, but I never really think about it that way until we encounter another enthusiast. I said “I feel like cars are to me what football is to most dudes, but then I talk to another enthusiast and I realize that its more like Dungeons and Dragons.”
I guess I should have taken a pic of both cars too...
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

100% on the nerd feeling. In the motorcycle industry we all say how no one is weirder than motorcyclists.
I think finding someone with the same hobby as you is so exciting that you nerd out a bit and can’t talk about anything else. Doesn’t bode well for our ‘cool factor.’ Oh well.

Ha. Accurate depiction of car-nerd life. Sharp looking car, too!
Good weekend. Friday night shot the shit at car club after getting in a quick rinse at the DIY car wash bay. Saturday went to cars and coffee. Random guy at grocery stopped and asked if i my GTI had been traded up from one of the diesels. We chatted a bit and he mentioned he was considering taking the deal and getting into a GTI instead of his diesel. After chatting it seems like i had sold him on it. Hooray car enthusiast.

Well fantasty football is just Dungeons and Dragons for jocks, so there’s that.
I agree with cars being my “football” as well, and my fiance also thinks I’m super nerdy... which I am. haha
The difference is, most guys that I know who watch football don’t actually go play it. Some might play pickup games every now and then, but there are very few of them in relation to the overall size of the football fan community. Whereas, I spend most of my weekends out doing something related to cars in my car, with a good portion being at an actual participatory event like autocross, rallyx or HPDE. I’ll take being a car nerd over being a football nerd any day.

Thanks! Chatting with this guy reminded me that I’ve got to get back to cars and coffee, I’ve not been once over the summer.
I spent most of my weekend in a crouched position (fixing doorbell, installing garbage disposal, washing car) So I’ve moved to an office with a stand up desk for the day.

Except in high school...

I’m actually more comfortable talking to other motorcyclists when I’m out on the Grom, than I am car guys.
With bike dudes, you know that they’re down to talk about it for a little while. When you see someone with a sweet car it’s tough to gauge. They could be an enthusiast, or they could just be a clown with a bunch of money. Even worse a clown who’s parents have a bunch of money.
Not that the ladder does not happen with motorcycles, but I’ve never met a douchey rider.

“Is that an S model with the tan interior AND manual transmission? That’s amazing! That was only a one year combo right?”
“Actually a few were built for the next year, but they were all bought by the Lithuanian Royal Family.”

I just had a guy wait for me in the garage to talk about my Abarth. He drives an AMG E55 but he loves the sound of my little car, go figure... It turns out he is an IT guy for another department on campus, I see his name all the time and he sees mine but we never knew each other before. Cars - connecting people.(better than Nokia).

Love the Sepang blue.
I’d want to put it on the Jag F Type. Either that or Nardo Gray.
Or both!

I agree, we had a big Autoshow type thing but for bikes, I went on my own but nontheless I managed to strike up conversation with awhole bunch of people in just a couple of hours.
Now that I remember the other day I met one of my friend’s boyfriend and he plays Overwatch and the conversation was equally nerdy, just about a game instead of valves and ride height and parts. Hm.

Funny you should say. I asked about getting the S3 in Nardo grey...they wanted an extra $6,000!

Lmao yeah that’s crazy! I
ts cheaper to get a Nardo Gray wrap, right? Maybe 4k?
If I get a chance, I’d get a CPO Jaguar F Type S/V8S/R coupe, wrap it in Nardo Gray with Sepang Blue race stripes on the side.

Yeap, I’d say about 4k for a good wrap. I met a guy with a red F430 wrapped in silver. I had no idea until he told me, it looked perfect. He said it was $4500

Wow....$4,500 for wrapping a Ferrari is a good deal.

Sports in general is a borderline hobby for most people, who treat it as time sitting in front of the TV and screaming for whatever your favourite team is.
